Welcome to Xiao Laboratory

Where there is a will, there is a way

The rapid development in computer hardware has led the world to a new age where people can reproduce many natural phenomena merely on a computer platform. Computation or numerical simulation has become an indispensable approach to almost every field of scientific researches and industrial applications. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is one of the most exciting episodes in the whole story, and has been so far widely applied in aerospace research, automobile industry, chemical engineering, civil engineering, weather prediction, environment assessment, thermal engineering, hydraulics, marine & naval engineering, biomechanics etc.
The mission of this laboratory is twofold. The first is to continuously devise new and reliable numerical algorithms to various CFD problems and the second is to explore the truth of the nature and the answers to various engineering problems by using CFD as a powerful tool. The laboratory is run based on the policies highlighted below.

The themes for research should be:

  • scientifically advanced
  • meaningful for practical applications
  • technically feasible
  • challenging
  • well suited for each individual
  • enjoyable

The students are expected and encouraged to be:

  • self-motivated
  • independent thinking
  • exposed to as much background knowledge as possible

The atmosphere of the laboratory should be:

  • open and pleasurable
  • friendly and cooperative
